Versacepolis: Versace’s Atlantis-Inspired Collection for Spring/Summer 2021

Donatella Versace reportedly spent her lockdown days alone with her dog in Milan for almost four months. Those days seemed to be filled with creativity and inspiration as Versace bounced back with a jaw-dropping runway show that was viewed by millions virtually during Milan Fashion Week. Versacepolis is Versace’s spring/summer 2021 collection, seemingly inspired by under the sea. The collection is actually a reimagination of the lost city of Atlantis in ruins. The setting was complete with powdered debris scattered on the floor, and ruins of ancient Greek pillars and arches. Gigantic statues of Gods and Goddesses, including the brand’s iconic Medusa emblem, were also incorporated. All these truly made the viewers feel that they’re in utopian underwater.

“I wanted to create something disruptive, something that could be in tune with what has changed inside all of us. To me, that meant dreaming of a new world. A world made of popping colors and fantastic creatures and a world in which we can all coexist peacefully.” Donatella Versace described via the brand’s website.

The collection was paraded by models who mostly appeared with damp hair and shimmering glass skin. If you’re a big fan of the brand, this must be a nostalgic moment because Donatella Versace brought back the famous Trésor de la Mer print. It is a textile design that is composed of underwater caricatures of corals, seashells, and more– originally designed by the founder Gianni Versace in the 90s. From crystal-encrusted bras and vibrant-colored motifs, here are a few photos from Versace’s S/S 2021: Versacepolis collection:

With a truly magical fashion experience straight out of a fantasy sea world, Versace has outdone itself yet again. For more photos and information about the show, you check out the website here.  What is your favorite piece from the collection? Let us know in the comments!
