The 77th Venice International Film Festival has just kicked off its first day by having a red carpet event. With Italy being one of the first countries to have a high rate of positive COVID-19 cases in April, the festival has required tourists and movie-goers to take safety precautionary measures. Being one of the first major film festivals to open this year, the event’s focus– the power of cinema and filmmaking creativity– is considered to be an antidote to coronavirus depression. Because of travel restrictions, most Hollywood stars weren’t able to attend the event but a handful of celebrities, directors, and producers made it to the opening day wearing exceptional outfits made by renowned fashion designers. To celebrate the power of cinema as well as creative expression through fashion, we have listed down our fashion favorites from the VIFF red carpet.
Tilda Swinton in Chanel Haute Couture
Elodie in Atelier Versace
Cate Blanchette in Alexander McQueen
This year’s jury president, Cate Blanchette went for a simple yet gorgeous silhouette. The actress wore a floral patch top and black pants ensemble by Alexander McQueen.
Taylor Hill in Etro
Anna Foglietta in Armani
Anna Foglietta– this year’s main host for the opening and closing ceremonies– went for a masculine-meets-femininity get up by wearing a striped tuxedo ensemble by Armani.
Lotte Verbeek in Alberta Ferretti
Sara Serraioco in Valentino
The Italian actress made an entrance as she arrived via boat wearing a Valentino white flowy gown with a blazer-like top. She remained fashionably comfy by wearing white flat shoes with big golden studs.
Cristiana Capotondi in Alberta Ferretti
Looking like a modern gatsby flapper, Italian actress Cristiana Capotondi wore a low-neck thin-strapped gown detailed with black and blue ostrich feathers, another creation at the event designed by Alberta Ferretti.
Frida Aasen in Alberta Ferretti
Ludivine Sagnier in Celine
Beatrice Valli in Rami Kadi
The Venice International Film Festival is an annual event that aims to showcase outstanding films and documentaries by directors and actors from all around the world. The ten-day event will have its closing awarding ceremony on September 12. Which among our list is your favorite?
