BGC, Philippines– One of the challenging factors of working in the Philippines is braving the traffic going to the office, and this could be a worse experience if you’re commuting via public transportation. MK Bertulfo, founder of FHMoms, understood the stress that one experiences commuting to work from her previous job.
“Before FHMoms, or Filipina Homebased Moms, I worked as a call center agent for two years. I’ve personally experienced the challenges and struggles that many mothers face in balancing their professional careers with family responsibilities. As a young mother myself, I went through the daily grind of a traditional work setting, dealing with long commutes and limited time with my family, MK shared in an interview with STYLISH via Style Visionary Network.
“This experience led me to seek alternative solutions, and I found a way to work online, which significantly improved my work-life balance. Eventually, I secured an online job as an email support representative. This experience became a turning point for me, inspiring the creation of FHMoms.”
Understanding the difficulties mothers, MK felt compelled to create a supportive community which is now known as FHMoms. The community was founded in 2017 until it was registered as a business in 2020.
“Building a strong community with 490,000 members and achieving recognition, such as me as a founder being ranked 4th in the ‘Top 100 Filipinos on LinkedIn’ and among the ‘Top 30 Most Influential People’ in LinkedIn, has been truly rewarding. Additionally, our community was named the ‘Best Local Organization in 2023’ by Open Arms Organization, and FHMoms Inc. secured a spot in the ‘Top 100 Startups’ for 3 consecutive years are moments of great pride. These milestones showcase the growth, impact, and positive change that FHMoms continue to bring to the lives of many—changing lives, one mom at a time,” she said.
For MK, the importance lies in providing mothers with opportunities to pursue their passions, contribute to their families, and achieve personal and professional fulfillment. By empowering mothers, FHMoms aim to break traditional societal expectations and stereotypes that limit their choices and potential.
“Ultimately, I believe that when mothers are empowered, it positively impacts not only their individual lives but also the well-being and dynamics of their families. It’s about fostering a sense of confidence, security, and independence in mothers, allowing them to thrive in both their personal and professional roles. The goal is to create a ripple effect, inspiring positive change in the lives of women and families within our community and beyond.”
Focused on vision
“Our vision is to have a nation with inspired, strong willed, and empowered women that happily contributes to their family’s everyday endeavors,” MK added.
“As the founder of FHMoms, I actively engage in various activities to support our community. We provide free webinars on topics related to freelancing, entrepreneurship, parenting, and personal growth, aiming to deliver valuable educational content. Additionally, we offer paid courses for those seeking in-depth learning on specific niches, empowering our members to enhance their skills.”
“In our community, I participate in discussions, answer questions, and strive to foster a supportive environment for our members. Collaborations with brands, organizations, and partners are initiated and managed to create projects and programs that benefit our community collectively.”
FHMoms offers digital marketing services, including ad-based and affiliate revenue models, which help its members promote their skills and businesses effectively.
“We also facilitate connections between our members and potential clients or job opportunities through our job-matching and recruitment services.”
The Computer Rent-to-Own Program is a special initiative of FHMoms designed to provide support to members who may face financial challenges in purchasing their own computer units.
“Our focus extends to growing our community’s reach on various social media platforms to connect with more Pinay moms globally.”
Continuous Innovation
“Continuous innovation is a key aspect of our approach. We regularly update and improve our services, launch new initiatives, and stay adaptable to the evolving needs of our community. Together, these activities contribute to our mission of empowering Filipina moms in their freelancing and entrepreneurial journeys,” MK explained.
FHMoms is known for its products and services that are tailored for Pinay Moms, such as E-commerce with cash payment and installment for equipment; E-learning with curated freelancing and entrepreneurship courses; Job-Matching Support and Talent Sourcing through internship and client networking; and lastly, Advertising with market research and digital advertising packages for local and international brands.
“Reflecting on the incredible journey of FHMoms, some of my favorite milestones include reaching over 45,000 students through our various programs, launching the official microsite for our Mastery Courses, and successfully running the Internship Program with 160+ interns as of now,” she said.
Indeed, contributing to building a nation of empowered mothers and women is a fulfilling feeling MK understands deeply, as she continues to inspire women to find better job options from the comfort of their homes, armed with their world-class skill sets.
