Sperry, the global footwear giant known for its iconic boat shoes, continues to champion the fight against ocean pollution with its stylish and eco-conscious Bionic Collection. The premiere of the “ethical shoes” made headlines in 2019, as their materials were spun from plastic wastes recovered from marine and coastal environments across the world.

This year, the launch of the new Bionic Collection by Sperry is in line with United Nations’ World Water Day on March 22. The advocacy efforts are in support of sustainable water management activities, as well as awareness campaigns on pressing water crisis issues.

Plastic wastes that clog our natural waters have always been a problem, contributing to the current ocean plastic epidemic. Sperry does its part in addressing the problem and creating solutions by literally making shoes out of the plastics from the seas– known today as the brand’s Bionic Collection. Each of Sperry‘s Bionic pair is woven from at least 5 plastic bottles.
