Two Japanese heritage brands that are all about energy, passion, and self-expression come together in an exciting spring/summer 2020 collaboration.
To commemorate the collaboration, Shu Uemura has released a capsule collection of twelve limited edition cosmetics, while Onitsuka Tiger has launched one new sneaker design.
The collaboration pays equal homage to athletics and art by taking the classic Onitsuka Tiger stripes and re-finishing them in brush strokes with updated colorways.
The lip collection comes in two finishes: the Rouge Unlimited Lacquer Shines and the Rouge Unlimited Mattes.
The Rouge Unlimited Lacquer Shines are housed in hefty, square cases in the Onitsuka Tiger Midwhite/Blue colorway. These lipsticks pack a strong dose of color and leave a wet shine, almost as if it had a built-in gloss topper. Summer Punch is a bright red orange while Flame Chaser and Sunrise Energy are a glittery pink and orange,
The Rouge Unlimited Mattes on the other hand, are cased in a Tokyo Red/Energy Orange colorway that is unique to this collaboration. Red Boost is a cool red, Chili Ambition is a light brick, while Tangy Orange is a playful medium orange. All three apply with the iconic silicone-matte finish of the Rouge Unlimited Mattes. While many beauty brands both Korean and Western have had a shot at modern mattes, powder mattes, or lightweight mattes, nothing comes close to the lightweight opacity of Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Mattes, which are one of my favorite finishes.
The collaboration sneaker by Onitsuka Tiger is a gorgeous Tokyo Red from sole to tongue. DELEGATION EX™ is a unisex, modern take on the classic Mexico 66s worn by the Japanese delegation during the 1966 Olympic pre-trials for the 1968 Olympics, which first put the brand on the map.
The glossy Tokyo Red enamel body is inspired by the color of lipsticks, and the finish is purposefully selected to evoke the look of glossy cosmetics. This is contrasted by the soft matte cow leather details in Energy Orange and black. The shoe has a chunky, modern midsole incorporating FLYTEFOAM; Propel technology, a highly-responsive form material used to provide a comfortable fit. At both ends of the spare shoelaces (still in Tokyo Red), the logo of each brand is printed.
The shu uemura x Onitsuka Tiger Collaboration items are currently available in limited stores online and worldwide.
