Schiaparelli Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2023: Celestial Goddesses in Surreal Gowns & Sculptural Silhouettes

Brimming with artistic inspirations, this collection pays homage to luminaries like Lucian Freud, Yves Klein, and many more.

Manila, Philippines — Brimming with artistic inspirations, the Schiaparelli Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2023 collection showcased at the Paris Couture Week 2023 pays homage to luminaries like Lucian Freud, Yves Klein, and many more.

Creative director Daniel Roseberry per usual took the visionary approach, steeping into Surrealist influences. The result is an unveiling of an extraordinary tapestry—an ethereal embodiment of a woman’s essential wardrobe, veiled in unrestrained imagination. By embracing this ethos, Roseberry’s collection transcends the realm of the attainable, becoming an enigmatic realm where the surreal and the sublime coalesce. This collection serves as a testament to the power of haute couture as an art form, where Roseberry defies convention through his surrealist portrayal of a woman’s essential closet.

While the collection exuded an animalistic essence, it diverged from the previous season’s controversial mammal head motifs. Instead, a distinct primal energy infused many of the couture pieces for fall 2023.

In his interview backstage after the show, Daniel Roseberry stated that the last season was reduced. For this collection, Daniel Roseberry said he wanted the focus to be on techniques, color, and the privilege of creating couture. This marked the pivotal moment when Roseberry ventured into uncharted territory, crafting sculptural and asymmetrical silhouettes from contrasting black and white fabrics. Collaborating with skilled artisans, he pushed the boundaries, seamlessly blending the realms of clothing, embroidery, jewelry, and textile collages.
