Schiaparelli Gifted Us With Baroque Surrealism And We’re Here for It

Schiaparelli is taking fashion to the extreme level as their new collection is a true feast for the eyes. Up and coming designer Daniel Roseberry has been appointed to design the latest pieces of the renowned Parisian brand.

Roseberry spent his time in quarantine to make his name known across the industry. His creativity has no limitations as the proportions of his designs were taken to a whole new level.

The France-based brand’s founder, Elsa Schiaparelli, is known for her matador jackets in the 1930s. And Roseberry took inspiration from a few swatches he found and gave eccentric, yet elegant designs.

The latest fashion creations did not match with one another– making each individual piece a standout. Baroque and classical art were heavily apparent, as well as simple colored clothing but the silhouettes are just magical.

Most of the pieces have metallic fixtures and embroidery. I loved the irreverence, and doing this season with embroidery what we did last season with the jewelry,” Roseberry said in an interview.

Roseberry also took the sustainability route as a few of the pieces were made out of upcycled materials like old biker jackets. He considered this as an homage to Elsa and her former collaborator, artist Jean Cocteau.

The collection was paraded virtually and Roseberry was grateful as they were working on a tight budget. “We don’t have those billion-dollar budgets, basically, and we’ve been really lucky with the digital because it’s really flattened the whole couture week so that the strongest collections can emerge,” he said.

Roseberry concluded his statement by saying he’s excited to put out future collections in a physical fashion show with a live audience.
