Exclusive Preview: Hollywood Stylist Ty-Ron Mayes Shares Shoot Inspiration for Upcoming Metropolitan Magazine Issue

Celebrity stylist Ty-Ron Mayes has recently turned to Netflix hit series “The Queen’s Gambit” for inspiration during his latest shoot. It is for  the fashion editorial spread of the upcoming issue of Manhattan-based luxury publication Metropolitan Magazine

The New York-based stylist has been in the fashion industry for more than two decades, notable for working with Tyra Banks, Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey and Heidi Klum, to name a few.

Ty-Ron’s shoot highlighted the hat collection of fashion designer Anat Fritz, which which will be unveiled in the next issue of Metropolitan Magazine. “I was mesmerized by Beth Harmon’s stare as she conquered the male-dominated world of chess. Her style evolution was a love letter to the fashions of the 1950s and 1960s. Although she was complicated, her style point of view was aspirational and her creative makeup, which harkened back to the days of Edie Sedgwick was not only inspiring, but timely for today’s post-Kardashian/Jenner cosmetic obsession,” Ty-Ron shared.

The stylist also expressed his excitement to work with his friend: fashion photographer Udo Spreitzenbarth. He noted that they decided to use a young newcomer model for the Metropolitan Magazine shoot. “Texas-native Lita Cline is the perfect muse for the Queen’s Gambit Hat Collection by fashion designer Anat Fritz.”

“Lita has the face that is reminiscent of 1960s models such as Edie Sedgwick, Twiggy, Penelope Tree, Peggy Moffitt and Jean Shrimpton. With her young oval face, wide spaced eyes, pixie nose and bow lips, Lita Cline is the perfect retro beauty for my modern interpretation of The Queen’s Gambit.”

“I actually also did the hair and makeup, and I created an eye that was inspired by Anya Taylor Joy’s character Beth Harmon, as well as Edie Sedgwick, Audrey Hepburn, Peggy Moffitt and Twiggy,” he said. “With my styling, triple eyeliner treatment, explosion of lashes and some intricate hat scrunching from Anat herself, we were able to document a fresh take on how to rock the Queen’s Gambit look today,” Ty-Ron concluded.

Ty-Ron has worked on numerous fashion covers for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Marie Claire– to name a few. Currently, Ty-Ron is the contributing fashion editor for Metropolitan Magazine. Watch out for its new issue on www.metmagny.com, and follow them on Instagram @metropolitanmagazine.
