Emerging Trends From London Fashion Week S/S 2021

The best thing about London Fashion Week is it has become the leading platform of the world’s most elite fashion houses, and upcoming style visionaries.

Fashion houses have become creative in presenting their Spring/Summer 2021 collections, as expected. Burberry had a virtual live stream on the popular streaming app called Twitch, which lets the viewers interact by posting their thoughts real-time in a chatbox.

From over-the-top theatrical pieces to garments that take us back in time, these are our favorite trends from the London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2021:

1.All Out Avant-Garde

Halpern – S/S 2021
Burberry – S/S 2021
Matty Bovan – S/S 2021

Editorial pieces have been labeled as “non-practical” and “not necessary” recently, but fashion week presentations have proven that there’s not hate on creativity and brilliance, periodt. A few brands from the S/S21 season’s London Fashion Week showcased gag-worthy avant-garde ensembles that put back the focus on ingenuity. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from this pandemic, is that creativity can indeed save us.

2.Florals

RIXO – S/S 2021
Erdem – S/S 2021
Emilia Wickstead – S/S 2021

There are a few takes on the floral trend over the years and it’s impossible to not see at least one floral-printed piece from numerous collections. This year, minimalist floral prints are seen from collections, which are reminiscent of floral paintings from the 1950s. Brands like Erdem and Emilia Wickstead heavily used minimalist florals in different silhouettes.

3.Ruffles

Molly Goddard – S/S 2021
Thorton Bregazzi – S/S 2021
Bora Asku – S/S 2021

This trend was seen in a lot of collections from NYFW, and it’s taken over the London Fashion Week, too. A lot of brands have featured tops and dresses that have over-the-top touch of ruffles. The play of textures is also seen in collars and sleeves of couture pieces.

4.Modern Royalty

Richard Malone – S/S 2021
Simone Rocha – S/S 2021
Edward Crutchley – S/S 2021

Since England is the land of royalty, it’s fresh to see designers take inspiration from the opulent gowns from different royal eras like the Victorian period. Designers have modernized maximalist pieces that will truly make you feel like a queen. They topped it off by heavily accessorizing the outfits with gems and crystals.

5.Retro

Victoria Beckham – S/S 2021
Charlotte Knowles – S/S 2021
Duro Olowu – S/S 2021

This season, a major throwback was seen in numerous collections, particularly by Victoria Beckham. Her pieces are very reminiscent of the 70s disco era. The nostalgic pieces from different collections mostly play up the color palettes of orange and beige.
