Liza Soberano Officially Signs with James Reid’s Record Label

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-American actress Liza Soberano has always been known as the fresh-faced beauty who constantly stars in ABS-CBN’s biggest teleseryes and blockbuster romantic-comedy movies. Her sweet demeanor and charming persona make her one of this generation’s most sought-after rom-com actresses.

Now the 24-year-old actress is ready to take her portfolio to a whole new direction. Just recently, Liza officially signed a contract with Careless Music, the independent record label and management company founded by Australian-Filipino actor, music producer and musician James Reid back in 2018.

Careless Music is the force behind James Reid’s ultra-cool R&B album Palm Dreams and the country’s first-ever visual album: Nadine Lustre’s Wildest Dreams.

In a sit down interview with Stylish Magazine during the trade launch and press con of Careless Music in Quezon City recently, Liza shared her thoughts on what it’s like to work with an “artist-centric” company after being under the Ogie Diaz Talents management for 11 years.

“I feel like this new endeavour is actually allowing me to be a little bit more true to who I am as an artist. I’ve always wanted to do so much more than what I was doing before. I’ve been in the industry for 12 years now and for the past 8 years, I’ve been mainly doing love team projects and I never got to experience doing anything else outside my love team,”Liza shared.

Liza is one-half of Lizquen, one of the biggest love team celebrity couples in the Philippines, named after the actress and her reel and real boyfriend Enrique Gil.

“As much as I love working with Quen (Enrique Gil) doing rom-coms all time time, and it’s fun, but it’s also very limiting too because I never got to experience doing anything else, so I was not able to further develop my craft, and to try out different genres. Like to test the waters and see what I’m capable of doing,” she added.

Liza emphasized what she loves about her new management agency.

“And so now that I’m signing with Careless, what I like about them is they’re an artist-centric company so they listen to the artist. And James always says, he works for me and I’m his boss, and not the other way around. Because before, I always had this mentality that the managers were the boss and they were supposed to dictate what you do and how you do them,” she said.

“What’s fun is they (Careless) give you the opportunity to make those decisions for yourself — to kinda voice out what you wanna do, how fast you wanna go and where you wanna take yourself. And it’s all up to you to work to be able to achieve everything that you wanna do. Of course with them, they’re like your arms and legs to get you to that place,” she shared.

James, on the other hand, teased that their company is planning to launch Soberano as a musician, “because she has such a nice voice.” The two revealed that Liza took some voice lessons during their recent trip to Los Angeles, California. The actress is still mainly eyeing on exploring her acting artistry.
