The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards may have gone through a lot of changes due to the global pandemic happening right now, but Lady Gaga will still remain a show-stopper whenever she’s at the renowned awards show. Debuted in 2009, critics dubbed Lady Gaga’s first MTV VMA appearance as a cultural reset, from a blood-soaking performance to numerous outfit changes, Gaga has changed the VMAs fashion perspective starting that year.
The following years attending the show, Gaga did not hold back with her outrageous fashion statements– In 2010 she wore a controversial meat dress. The following year, she decided to show up dressed as a man embodying her alter ego ‘Jo Calderone’. Lastly, she wore a flashy sea-shell bikini at her 2013 performance. The fans and the press truly missed her presence as she was absent for the next seven years. Today, Gaga is now back at the MTV VMAs stage to teach everyone how to steal the show.
Even though we already have an idea that Mother Monster will have numerous looks during the evening, home viewers did not expect the singer to have nine staggering outfit changes throughout the awards show. This only proves that she’s not just an award-winning singer, but a true fashion icon as well. Lady Gaga was up for nine nominations during the event– seven for “Rain On Me” with Ariana Grande, for the Artist of the Year Award category, and Best Quarantine Performance for “Smile” from a charity at-home concert. She also received the first-ever MTV Tricon Award that acknowledges her icon status in music, acting, fashion, and activism. If you missed the awards show that aired earlier today, we are here to break down all of Lady Gaga’s outfits during the 2020 MTV VMAs.
