H&M Unveils ‘Conscious Exclusive Collection’ for Spring/Summer 2020

Sustainable fashion is proving to be the best way to go when it comes to style. In light of everything that is happening in the world, any bit of preservation is helpful.
Since 2012, H&M has put ecology at the forefront by unveiling each season with the Conscious Exclusive capsule. The collection is the Swedish retail giant’s premium womenswear of elevated pieces and timeless classics, made from sustainably-sourced materials using sustainable production methods.
Who could ever resist the glitz and glamour of the golden age of train travel? Dress up for a cup of tea, look at spectacular views and engage in the most sparkling conversations with fellow travelers? It’s all aboard the elegant sleeper train, Le Train Bleu that ran from Calais to the Côte D’Azur in France in the 1920s. This is the inspiration of H&M as it unveils the 11th edition of Conscious Exclusive for Spring/Summer 2020.
The 46-piece collection focuses on sustainability and circularity. It is all about the continuous elimination of waste and the use of resources while upholding responsible and ethical fashion and design processes. Riviera stripes, ballerina silhouettes and delicate ribbon embellishments conspire to create a charming and ultra-feminine capsule.
It inclines to the elegance of the voyage through pieces such as a floor-length recycled polyester ball gown, a recycled taffeta mini dress, a recycled taffeta blouse, and flat cocktail slippers with recycled glass beading leftover from previous collections.
The line also includes a bag made from the vegan leather alternative called Vegea, composed mainly of discarded grape skins and stalks.
“We wanted to propose a collection that played to that decadent, carefree time but also contained enduring designs our customers will love wearing daily,” says Ella Soccorsi, designer at H&M. Additional fabrics used throughout the series include Circulose, a natural material produced from recovered cotton and viscose, the recycled polyester Renu, and lastly, the Econyl which is a regenerated nylon made from used fishing nets.
The Conscious Exclusive design team carefully took into consideration the durability and afterlife of each garment in the capsule. The dyeing methods used have less environmental impacts like using natural dye made from coffee grounds collected from H&M‘s production offices. While it’s important to create sustainable fashion by H&M, it is arguably more important that we should buy things we want to keep and cherish for many years to come.
