“My inspiration behind the brand was really my circle of friends. I must say that they don’t know what ‘casual wear’ means. To them, it’s synonymous to showing up to a red carpet event even in the middle of the day. They are always dressed and glammed up, making sure to look nothing but extra. I always get invited to extravagant events hosted by them and everyone makes sure they wear the very best from head to toe! They take care of themselves well and they look so, well, glamorous every. single. time. I love it,” Della shared in an interview with us. “They push me to step up my game and get excited about dressing up. They make me want to look my best because when you like how you look, you just feel good. So every time I pick the pieces to showcase on my website or social media platform, I always picture my friends wearing them.”
La Glamour Queen, pronounced as LAH Glamor Queen, used to be La Reine Glamour which is a French phrase meaning “the Queen of glamour”. Della noted that others found it hard to pronounce, so she needed to change the name of her fashion line to La Glamour Queen.
This fashion entrepreneur shared that she envisions her clientele to look and feel as fabulous as a La Glamour Queen through her line offerings.
“I remember the first ever dress that started it all. It was a pink bandage set that I just posted on my Instagram story last 2019, on October 19th to be exact. It was a photo of a model wearing the dress with 2950 written on it. That’s it! No ‘For Sale’ text, no size, nothing. Little did I know, that first sale would start the ball rolling,” she said. “After that post, I saw my follower interaction, who back then, were mostly just made up of friends. That single photo generated a lot of excitement and interest. That’s when I started thinking, ‘That was fun! I’ve always loved fashion, maybe I should really pursue this’. So I did, and the rest is history.”
Della has always been in the style and glam scene even before La Glamour.
“I got involved in the beauty and fashion industry while working as a professional makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics. My first business was DELLALAU BOUTIQUE, wherein I would sell layered body-chains and steampunk accessories like goggles, studded masks and even gas masks. I loved that they were very unique pieces. But unfortunately, it didn’t quite work out because the Filipino market was still conservative, so they found them ‘non-traditional’. After 2 years, La Glamour Queen was born.”
Within a short span of time, La Glamour Queen has been featured in a lot of fashion editorials and worn by a lot of celebrities. If you are going for that extra-sexy aesthetic with inspirations from Mugler or LaQuan Smith, LaGlamour Queen may just give you what you need style-wise. But if you’re going for feminine and fab looks, the brand has a wide range of fashion pieces for you too. Some of the fashion staples that are very La Glamour Queen include bandage dresses, co-ords, floral dresses, blazer dresses and sexy jumpsuits.
Della is very hands-on in curating her collection. “My process is actually pretty straightforward. To start with, the pieces I decide to include in the collection are handpicked by myself, or sometimes through a collaboration with my friends and clients.”
“Regularly, I take a good look at the whole collection to see if anything catches my eye. Then I think about whether it would spark an interest to my audience if I were to showcase it on my social media accounts or website. There’s not one particular style that I go for as I want to cover a diverse variety of glamour,” she said.
“I offer fashion staples to the LA Gamour Queen woman. She is strong and confident! She is an empowered woman. She wears LA Glamour Queen pieces that make her feel good. Glamming up and dressing up fuel her self-confidence and ignite her to be at her greatest self.”
Style Tips from La Glamour Queen Herself
“Style is so much more than nice clothing and designer trends. When women feel their best, not only do they inspire others, but they have a greater trust within themselves. Fashion helps them to take risky steps, to uphold more attention, to know what they want, and to challenge themselves to be better. Fashion is one of the many tools at our disposal that we can use to help us be the very best versions of ourselves. Simply put, fashion can help us achieve happiness in a way.”
Here are Della Lau’s top 5 styling tips for all her fashion queens:
1.Wear clothes that fit.
“Clothing that fits us properly highlights our assets, flatters our body type and allows room for breathing.”
“Most importantly, wearing clothes that perfectly fit us makes us feel good, and helps us look at our best. Items that are too big or too small make us look sloppy and ill-proportioned.”
2. Be authentic.
“The clothing we wear is a reflection of who we are. It should amplify our image and be an expression of ourselves. Wear clothing that feels like YOU.”
“If you’re unsure with how you feel about something, try asking yourself some of these questions: Do I recognize myself or am I trying to be someone I’m not? Does this clothing bring me happiness? Do I feel excited wearing it? If you answer yes to all 3, you’re ready to conquer the world!”
3. Put on proper undergarments.
“This can make or break our ensemble. Most women neglect how important this is that we don’t put enough thought and effort into it.”
“A great outfit can easily be ruined by the wrong underwear. On the other hand, undergarments that are seamless will help make our outfits flawless. Impeccable undies is synonymous to a perfect silhouette.”
4. Prioritize comfort over fashion.
“Want to know a non-negotiable styling tip? Comfort comes first.”
“If torn between style and comfort, always choose comfort. When we’re uneasy or when we’re limited from moving, we’re unable to ignite our inner queen power! Never sacrifice your comfort. PERIODT!”
5. Find yourself some reliable tailors and make them your best friends.
“Tailoring clothes is the secret weapon to looking finest in your OOTDs! When something fits well, it literally looks like it was made for you. I personally tailor almost every dress or trouser I own. Yes, I will have to spend a little more money to have that done, but having clothes I love to wear and that fit me well is priceless.”
“If you accidentally size up or down, alter. When shopping, always try on multiple sizes. If you find yourself in between, choose the larger size because adjusting is easier. Oh, another amazing hack? Get your tailor to change cheap buttons to fancier ones for your jackets and coats to look infinitely more lavish.”
