Due to travel restrictions and community standards for health, the Emmys took a different route this year with an unusual setup. The 71st Emmys did not have an actual red carpet event, and the winners this year accepted their awards at home. Dubbed as the Virtual 2020 Emmys, it was reported that the producers sent over 130 cameras to 20 cities in 10 countries to capture the winners at home. Apparently, no pandemic can ever stop our favorite A-list actors in showcasing their fashion statements even while they’re self-isolating at home! We have listed down our favorite 2020 Emmys fashion moments here:
Tracee Ellis Ross in Alexandre Vauthier
Actress Tracee Ellis Ross went all out as she set up her own red carpet at home, and on it she modelled her metallic gold halter gown by Alexandre Vauthier. The look was embellished with vintage Tiffany & Co. accessories, and heels by Jimmy Choo. The look couldn’t be completed without a fab face mask, of course!
Regina King in Schiaparelli
Before sitting down to receive her award, ‘Watchmen’ actress Regina King stuns in her at-home awards night fashion by wearing an electric blue gown studded with brooch details by Schiaparelli. The moment was cemented and captured as she was photographed by James Anthony. The star won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series award that she received virtually at the comfort of her own living room.
Zendaya in Custom Armani Privé
Styled by the legendary celebrity stylist Law Roach, the ‘Euphoria’ actress was seen wearing a crystal-embellished polka dot gown by Armani Privé. The look was accessorized with Bulgari jewelry. The former Disney star also made history by being the second black and youngest actress to ever win the Lead Actress in a Drama Series award, despite being nominated alongside powerhouse actresses such as Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Oh, and many more.
Reese Witherspoon in Louis Vuitton
Any awards show wouldn’t be complete if no one wore the little black dress. This year, ‘Legally Blonde’ actress Reese Witherspoon is the one who stood out wearing her simple yet very chic LBD by Louis Vuitton. Her virtual Emmys look was completed with fierce red lips.
Shangela in Christian Siriano
RuPaul’s Drag Race royalty D.J. Pierce, or famously known as Shangela, has been in quarantine in Texas since March. This never stopped her to attend the virtual Emmys from her hometown. The queen wore a voluminous purple and black tulle ball gown by Christian Siriano complete with pom-pom details. The look was accessorized with jewelry by Lolli Cox.
Billy Porter in Ashi Studio
In recent years, Billy Porter is known for wearing head-turning pieces during awards season. This is his way of redefining masculinity and breaking down gender stereotypes in fashion. For this year’s Emmys, Billy Porter has outdone himself once again by wearing a white custom ensemble by Ashi Studio. Styled by Ty Hunter, the look consists of a tailored jacket with draped detail paired with flare-legged pants.
Rachel Brosnahan & Jason Ralph in Christy Rilling
As we are accustomed to see celebrity couples on the red carpet, some of them brought the same love magic in their “at-home” participation. Husband and wife Jason Ralph and Rachel Brosnahan wore matching custom pajamas by Christy Rilling. Their two dogs also joined them too! How adorable!
Annie Murphy in Valentino
The actress attended ‘Schitt’s Creek’s own Emmys viewing party wearing a gorgeous all-black tuxedo ensemble by Valentino, complete with a face mask! The look was simply accessorized with a letter A pendant necklace, which her on-screen persona “Alexis” has also worn on the show. Speaking of roles, she won the night’s Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, which made the show the most awarded one with 9 Emmy awards.
Julia Garner in Chanel
Wearing a full-on old Hollywood glam, ‘Ozark’ star Julia Garner wore a classic Chanel ensemble consisting of an ivory satin dress, and accessorized with layered pearls and a mobster era head accessory. This overall look reminds us of Coco Chanel with a hint of Marilyn Monroe! The actress won her second consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Sandra Oh in Kore Limited & L’Agence
The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actress has chosen to go with the glam loungewear by rocking a purple satin bomber jacket by Kore Limited, paired with L’Agence flare pants, and finished off with Louboutin pumps and a purple face mask. The actress also used her outfit to make a political statement. Embroidered in her jacket are Korean characters that translate to “Black lives are precious”, in support of the BLM Movement.
Yara Shadidi in Prada
Looking like an ethereal princess, actress Yara Shadidi was seen wearing a simple embellished Prada gown with a black feathered top.
Shira Haas in Chanel Haute Couture
Shira Haas was all about glam bohemian chic. The Netflix’s ‘Unorthodox’ actress was seen wearing a Chanel Haute Couture floral dress accessorized with a thick black belt and black strappy heels.
