Classic Vans Re-imagined in this New Collaboration with KENZO

A new footwear collection that’s taking center stage this summer: Kenzo and Vans are back with a Spring/Summer 2020 capsule collection inspired by skateboarding culture.

Vans, a California-based sneaker brand with skateboard influences, has teamed up with Kenzo to rework its classic Hi-Sk8 and Vans Old-Skool sneakers for a colorful summer collection that fuses the DNA of the two labels. This would be the very first collaboration with Vans since Felipe Oliveira Baptista was appointed as Kenzo’s creative director in July 2019.

A new era for the skateboarding community

Skateboarding first boomed in the ‘60s and ‘70s and with it, the skater style began to take shape. However, it wasn’t until the ‘90s when skating has transformed from a niche sport into a global phenomenon. With skating virtually defining an entire generation, the wide-spread adoption of its subculture fashion took place.

Today, the skater aesthetic with an anti-establishment personality has become a staple in casual street style. This is the reason why Kenzo’s signature floral prints complement the Hi-Sk8 sneakers and Vans Old-Skool Sneakers so well as it brings to life three archive designs that everyone practically grew up with.

Taking this sneaker capsule one-step further, Kenzo has also teamed up with The Skateroom to release a ready-to-wear and accessories lifestyle collection consist of a series of unisex pieces ranging from graphic tees to sweatpants, a logo hoodie and a denim jacket—all carrying the ‘feel-good’ California vibe. Only 150 pieces will be made available and 100% of profits from the Kenzo Skateboard art edition will be donated to a social skate project to empower at-risk youth in Jamaica.

Most of the sneakers in this collection are valued at ₱11,900.00 per pair. You may shop the pairs online at Akimbo.ph.
