After topping the music charts with her hit song “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B seems like she is upgrading her status in the global fashion scene.
The American rapper announced her campaign with Balenciaga via Twitter and Instagram. The rapper isn’t new to the world of couture fashion as she has been rocking high fashion ensembles at numerous red carpet events, music videos, and live performances. But this is her first-ever high fashion campaign deal. The fashion house went all out, installing up a billboard outside The Louvre Museum in Paris featuring the flamboyant music artist.
The campaign was shot in her own home in Los Angeles with the help of her styling team. Cardi wore the brand’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection designed by creative director Demna Gvasalia, whose never had a big celebrity muse since her appointment in 2015.
In the photos released online, Cardi B is seen wearing a black catsuit-dress complete with gloves and sock boots while lying down in synthetic grass surrounded by Balenciaga’s white Neo Classic bag. The dress was handpicked by Gvasalia himself for the rapper, of course.
Besides the iconic fashion billboard in Paris which will stay up for the rest of September, Balenciaga also confirmed that they will also be promoting the campaign in several countries such as Taiwan, China, South Korea, and Singapore. Unfortunately, there is only one photo of the campaign released seen in Cardi B’s Instagram post, but there will surely be more photos to come in the following weeks. In the meantime, we’ll feature a few pieces from Balenciaga’s Neo Classic bag collection, which was seen in the Cardi photo.
