Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival: ‘Thrive My Tribe Collection’ by Benjie Panizales
This season in Philippine fashion is definitely about celebrating the Filipino identity by putting indigenous fabrics and traditional weaves in the forefront through a more modern approach in designs.
The fashion presentation of ‘Thrive My Tribe Collection’ by Benjie Panizales is a proof of that. In an exclusive interview with us, the fashion designer shared the inside story of his recently unveiled runway collection for Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival Season 12.
“Celebrating the artistic bounty of Mindanao, for this season I am offering a contemporary yet unconventional ensembles which I named ‘Thrive My Tribe’“, he said. “It is about paying homage to our ethnic brothers and their undying passion to continue the legacy of preserving the region’s cultural identity.”
“A melange of luxury from different tribes of Mindanao, the collection is focused on the mythical patterns punctuated by playful cuts, unexpected silhouettes and the juxtaposition of mixing rich solids with pops of bright Mindanaoan weaves– specifically Inaul that is being weaved by the displaced women of Marawi,” he said.
