Bella Hadid Embodies The Animal Spirit In Burberry’s First-Ever Bag Campaign
Looking fierce and ferocious, supermodel Bella Hadid bares it all in the first-ever bag campaign of Burberry, showcasing the brand’s newest signature purse, the Pocket Bag— an archive-inspired bag collection designed by Chief Creative Officer Riccardo Tisci.

Appearing almost nude in some photos, Bella Hadid fearlessly posed alongside giant plaster cat figures featuring the newest handbag. Tisci mentioned in an interview that the inspiration came from the Burberry Animal Kingdom, the brand’s house code for the Spring 2020 collection. Taking nostalgic notes from the brand’s archives, he wants to refer back to the heritage label but with a new and re-imagined silhouette that perfectly fits with the modern standard of the fashion industry. For the basis of choosing Bella Hadid to front this campaign, Tisci described the supermodel as someone who has fierce power and raw femininity that embodies the animal spirit.

Bella Hadid stars in a fashion film set in a raw, industrial space to contrast reality and fantasy. Some of the footages feature her in a black catsuit while strutting down like a feisty feline that mirrors the movement of a panther, evoking a wild spirit.
Produced before COVID-19 safety precautionary measures were imposed, the bag campaign was shot by the legendary duo, Inez and Vinoodh, which past notable works include Lady Gaga’s Applause music video and other campaigns for numerous high-fashion brands all over the world. The fashion photographer duo described the feeling of shooting with Hadid as letting the inner animal spirit run free and noting that she translated the feline qualities beautifully.

The newest handbag was first introduced last year as a part of the brand’s A/W19 collection, which was also designed by the COO himself. Giving it a new twist, the updated version has a front pocket and leather taping topped with contrast topstitching and hand-painted edges. Fitted with a detachable strap and sculptural top handles, the bag can be styled effortlessly across the body or by simply carrying it as a tote. Check out a few photos of the bag collection below:
