Manila, Philippines — It is Oscars season once again! While here at Stylish Magazine we are obsessed with fashion, glam and style (can’t wait to see all the red carpet looks!), we are also all about celebrating creativity and arts. Actors, movie directors, screenwriters and creatives in the film-making industry are once again going to be honored at The 95th Academy Awards on March 12, 2023 (Los Angeles time).
The ceremony will held by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards show will honor films released in 2022, with category nominations announced on January 24, 2023. It will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel The event will be televised in the U.S. by ABC and will be produced by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss.
The nominations came with a lot of controversies. Major one is the critics’ opinions surrounding the presence of Andrea Riseborough for the film “To Leslie” in the Best Actress lane, while actresses and favorite bets Danielle Deadwyler for movie “Till” and Viola Davis for “The Woman King” and Margot Robbie for “Babylon” were snubbed. In the movie “To Leslie”, Riseborough plays an alcoholic mother in Texas struggling to make ends meet after wasting her lottery winnings of $190,000. Meanwhile, other Best Actress frontrunners are Cate Blanchett for “TAR”, Michelle Yeoh for “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, Ana de Armas for “Blonde” and Michelle Williams for “The Fabelmans”.
Other surprising forgotten nominees are Brad Pitt for “Babylon”, Eddie Redmayne “The Good Nurse” and Paul Dano “The Fabelman”.
The Academy also overlooked James Cameron for “Avatar: The Way of Water” and Baz Luhrmann for “Elvis” for the category of Best Director, which was a complete shock for movie buffs and critics. But the hardest hit so far has been Damien Chazelle, who has missed out on the Best Director nomination, and Best Picture for “Babylon”— a double blow for the director of huge bo office hits ‘Whiplash’ and ‘La La Land.’
So you won’t miss out, here is the complete list of the nominees for this year’s Oscars:
